The initial idea of building JMS Allied Services came after Matt and Jodie were unable to find adequate behaviour support on the Mid North Coast regions of NSW for their son.
Shortly after the idea was reinforced when Matt was asked to present alongside Dr Jeffrey Chan (National Senior Practitioner of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in Australia) by the Association of Psychologists in Developmental Disability Services (PsychDD) at their annual conference. Dr Chan encouraged Matt and Jodie to become involved in behaviour support due to their lived experience, Jodie’s in-depth skills in mental health, and Matts research into the quality of life and personal well-being of those caring for individuals with a disability in Australia.
Matt and Jodie’s lived experience as parents of a profoundly disabled son who presented with extremely intense behaviours of concern was the foundation for them to enter university studies in Psychology and Nursing.
Matt used his passion of advocating for families of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder as the building blocks for his Honors and PhD research in which he psychometrically assessed and monitored the quality of life and personal well-being of over 400 families during the course of the NDIS roll out. Matts research has been published in leading journals including Autism. Jodie’s passion for helping those who encounter issues stemming from severe mental health diagnoses led her to becoming a specialist mental health nurse. Jodie thrived in her duties as a nurse and successfully aided patients to recover and safely re-enter the community.
The outcome of Matt and Jodie Snow’s 20 plus years of living, studying, researching, and managing serious behaviours of concern have led to the formation of JMS Allied Services.
The framework of JMS’s support is built on a strong personal understanding of the unique and difficult challenges families face. Matt and Jodie continue to support their adult son in the family home and find great pleasure in helping other families to uncover the individualised strategies that bring a level of calm to their lives. JMS aims to provide the best behaviour support services available and undertake constant professional development and training to keep their supports up to date and highly individualised.
