While completing his PhD in Psychology Matt worked within the Department of Human Sciences at Southern Cross University specialising in the teaching of psychological testing, functional assessment, abnormal behaviours, and the statistical analysis used to quantify them. He has published findings from his PhD Thesis ‘Effect of the NDIS on Australian Carers of Individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder’ in leading Autism publications.
Matt passionately worked as a disability advocate for Disability Advocacy NSW where he advocated strongly for the rights of individuals with a disability. In this role he engaged in NDIS internal reviews and external reviews at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). This work has given him an intricate understanding of ‘what’ the NDIS require when a request for additional supports is made for JMS clients.
Matt is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and regularly presents for the Association of Psychologists in Developmental Disability Services where he has presented alongside Dr Jeffrey Chan (National Senior Practitioner for the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission) and Professor Julian Troller (Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry within the School of Psychiatry at UNSW). Locally he has conducted seminars for the Northern Rivers General Practitioners Network alongside Professor Andrew Cashin (Professor of Autism and Intellectual Disability at Southern Cross University).
